Welcome to the Year 4 page, the summer term and of course... Harry Potter! We hope that you are keeping yourself safe and well at home. For the next two weeks (Monday 20th April-Friday 1st May) we have attached guidelines of work for your children to complete whilst they are at home. This is just a guide, please feel free to think outside of the box, play games and keep yourself as active as possible! Below is a daily timetable to help you structure your day if needed, alongside our guided daily work 'Distance learning for April 20th - May 1st'. No need to print anything off, children can just write the answers in their books. There is a maths, English and foundation subject lesson per day. Children are still expected to read to an adult at least 3 times a week and spend time on TT Rockstars.
This term we will of course be learning about Harry Potter. Our class book will be Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Obviously we would prefer to be reading together, but rather than wait until this is possible, we will be using it in our English. For some, we understand this may be a challenging text and you may read the book independently, with an adult or you may choose to listen to the audio book. The links to the books can be found above in the 'English resources'. All of the English lessons incorporate the book and therefore read at the pace that is set out in the English lessons... try not to be tempted to read ahead!
Please remember to use DB Primary to keep in contact with everyone, Miss Webb and Mr Barnes will be active at some point every day whilst the school is closed and would love to hear from you all! We are also available to contact by email.
PE Activities: Joe Wickes on YouTube is providing 30 minutes of brilliant exercises everyday at 9am. Don't panic if you have other plans at 9am, they remain on YouTube so can be accessed at any time during the time. All teachers are joining in, you should too!
Mindfulness and wellbeing: Please see the 'Mindfulness and wellbeing' section in the Home learning tab below for mindfulness and wellbeing ideas at home. Parents, you can also find further information on this in the 'Well-Being' section on the school website.
Please refer to each subject specific page on the school website for extra information or links to extra great ideas to keep busy at home! We are thinking of you all, stay safe!
You have now completed your first 2 weeks of working from home! Well done!
As it is now the Easter Holiday, we are not going to set you any work to do but we have a few challenges and ideas to help you decide what to do each day.
We would still like to hear from you though DB primary, we all like to read your news.
Enjoy yourselves, take care of each other and keep smiling.
Welcome to the Year 4 Page!
Miss Webb teaches in Class 3 and we welcome Mr Barnes who is now teaching in Class 4! We are very lucky to have the help from Miss Campbell, Mrs Henville and Mrs Kaminski as our TAs throughout the week.
Across the term, we have Madame Kelly teaching French, Mr Russell teaching PE and Mrs Mason teaching Music.
Please make sure PE kits are in school every day so our timetable can be as flexible as possible, however, we will have PE with Mr Russell on a Monday and Gymnastics on a Thursday the first half term, dance on a Thursday after half term.
Please also make sure that homework is handed in on a Monday/Tuesday every week ready to be marked and sent back out on a Wednesday. Children need to be spending 40 minutes on both their red book and their maths book. This includes their reading records which needs to be signed by an adult and include at least 3 reads per week. It is essential that children are using and accessing TT Rockstars regularly in preparation for their times tables check. Please see your class teacher with any further questions.
Below are some electronic copies of paper letters that have been sent out already including the timetable and curriculum newsletter.
Our topic this term is the Rainforests! We will be exploring both the rainforest as habitats including animals, as well as deforestation and conservation. During our term, we will be hosting a Rainforest Café on Wednesday 26th February to raise money for a cause (TBC). We will also get to enrich our learning with a trip to Colchester Zoo on Wednesday 1st April.
In addition to our topic, we will also be hosting the Year 4 Sleepover on Friday 28th February. The children will receive a letter with more information and a parents meeting will be held on Monday 3rd February.
As always please email or find us on the playground with any questions. Here's to an exciting term!
